Elena Virginia Schmitt
I was born and raised in Bologna, Italy, in a family of artisans and artists who nurtured my interest in visual expression from an early age.
I began tattooing in 2009 at the age of eighteen. A few years later, in 2014, I founded my own studio, Old Bones Tattoo, in Bologna, where I worked for ten years and developed both my technical skills and personal style.
Over time I felt the need for new influences, this led me to the Netherlands, and now I work weekly at Sweet and Sour tattoo collective in Amsterdam. The studio host an international community of artists, and its high professional standards continue to offer invaluable creative stimulation.
In parallel, I also work with Purple Sun in Brussels, a studio deeply rooted in artistic research and constant exchange. The atmosphere there provides a different yet equally meaningful source of inspiration.
I have many projects going on besides tattooing. I build jail tattoo machines and I tattoo with them, I create one for each my customers that want to be part of this project.
I do my own prints using linocut tecnique, I started in 2020 as a self taught and now is a very important part of my creative process.
I also recently started doing upcycled pottery.
