Evelyn Guzman/Baphorock
I’m Baphorock, a printmaker with a passion for traditional printmaking techniques and symbolic imagery. My inspiration comes from medieval woodcuts, illuminated manuscripts, alchemy, mythology, and folklore—subjects that have fascinated me for as long as I can remember.
Through linocut, and woodcuts I explore the enduring power of symbols and their ability to tell stories, preserve knowledge, and invite personal interpretation. Working with my hands is an essential part of this process. Each piece begins with research and investigation, and the act of carving becomes almost meditative—a slow, physical process of giving form to a symbol and the meaning behind it.
I also work with natural handmade papers, whose texture, irregularities, and individual character become part of the artwork itself. I see them as part of the ritual of making: no two pieces are ever completely alike. The combination of hand-carving, hand-printing, and handmade paper makes each work a unique object with its own physical presence.
My goal is to create prints that feel timeless: images that could belong equally in an old historical cabinet of curiosities or on a modern wall.
